Reiki Are U Prepared?
At this critical junction when the NHS "dabbles" with the idea of alternative therapies (and the pharmaceutical companies are laughing all the way to the bank), where the public is blindly taking more and more harmful drugs, the holistic/alternative community can ill afford bogus salespeople. They are doing all of us a disservice.
In general, Reiki and most other complementary therapies have been cheapened by people with an extremely superficial knowledge of those therapies, purporting to be experts (or masters). They have the effect (even though they mean well) of discrediting complementary therapies in the general public's eyes. The article below is aimed at assisting prospective Reiki students. In this article I am responding to my own experience of being taught and all the people that I have since come into contact with, as well as my own experiences as a practitioner and a teacher. The reader may perceive me as some kind of purist/idealist, but I believe in doing things properly. Yes, mistakes are made along the way, but do we learn from them? I want the answer to be "yes". I am not suggesting that there is only ONE way to teach, practice and learn Reiki. What I am trying to do is to get people to take a more informed approach to learning/practicing/teaching Reiki. People will find their own level of comfort with the various levels being offered. Hopefully, this article will make people involved with Reiki, hold a mirror to themselves .
Reiki is an extremely powerful complementary therapy as well as being a science and should be taught and learnt with love, care and respect. Selecting a suitable Reiki teacher/master can be a daunting process for any prospective student. There just seem to be so many teachers and courses to choose from. Some teachers themselves have only just completed a quick crash course in Reiki from first degree through to the Reiki master level over a weekend. Every potential student needs to be aware of this short cut. Selection of your teacher/master should be made on an informed basis.
"Fast food" Reiki courses may leave a student with unrealistically high expectations. Sometimes there are prolonged physical, mental and emotional side effects for which the student is not prepared. Reiki symbols should not be handed out like samples. They must be earned, properly taught and the student should be attuned to that symbol by their master/teacher. Are you thinking of getting attuned on the internet or over the telephone? THINK AGAIN!
Anyone wishing to embark on their Reiki journey needs to understand that it takes a life time! It is a life commitment. If Reiki is practiced regularly it enables the physical body to keep its own balance by addressing the three major parts of the human being; the body, the mind and the spirit, which represents the trilogy of our human life form. In this current world of instant "fix it", we have to understand that we don't just get sick; "dis-ease" manifests itself over time. As we experience our life and all it has to offer us, our physical bodies become our emotional mirrors.
Before selecting your Reiki teacher you must be prepared to work through your Reiki apprenticeship. Cutting corners based on the notion that you need to become an instant Master does not allow you the time you will need to learn, to adapt and receive the experience necessary to work with the higher vibrations of this very powerful form of healing. Reiki is not for the faint hearted, you will be tested by the universe, so you need to prepare yourself for this life changing self-empowering journey. continued »»
