Sufi Dervish whirling workshop with Sheikh Ahmed Dede - April 2007
It was with the greatest of pleasure that on the 21st of April I hosted a Sufi Dervish Whirling workshop led by Sheikh Ahmad Dede. This workshop was held at the Uplands Community College in Wadhurst and was a very special experience for those who participated, both young and old. After the workshop, everyone was able to relax with tea and biscuits and was given the opportunity to ask Sheikh Ahmed Dede any questions that they may have had.
Participants of this workshop took part in a relaxed and informal afternoon of love and enlightenment where they learnt to experience a little of the Sufi and the Dervish. Topics covered were; the seven steps of whirling, how to receive and to give divine love, healing and inner peace, subjects that most Reiki students are familiar with. During the workshop there were introductions to the whirling meditation, Sheikh Dede chanted traditional Sufi dhikr meditation chants, gave small talks of wisdom as well as inspirational singing accompanied by their Sufi musician. This workshop was so enjoyed by everyone that I intend to host another one in the not too distant future.

New Age Music with Chris Green from a healing perspective - November 2007
On Saturday the 10th of November 2007, I organized a New Age Music Workshop at the Uplands Community College in Wadhurst. The work shop was well attended and was presented by a friend of mine Chris Green, a very talented and creative musician who has a broad knowledge and experience of the music business in general. His presentation was full of his impish wit whilst being very informative. I met Chris at the Theosophical Society in Crowborough. In the summer of July 2007 Chris and his partner Amina came over for a South African braai (barbecue) and it was then that I had this idea of the workshop and managed to persuade him to agree to talking to some of my Reiki students on New Age Music from a healing perspective.
To customers of New World Music and MG Music, Chris is well known for his recording work with Robert Fenner as Runestone. He has also been published as a solo artist under the name Wychazel. At the workshop Chris shared some of the passion he has for this type of music. His talk touched on the perceived power of sound as a tool for healing, theories on how sound can be used to achieve altered states of consciousness and how these are integrated into New Age Music.
Other areas that Chris covered included how sound waves behave, the recording process and role of technology. The session included some practical demonstrations of Tibetan singing bowls and various effects of sound waves on the brain. Chris also played some recorded examples of work by selected artists who have been leading lights in establishing this type of music.
